June Quest-World Environment Day
Did you know World Environment Day is Sunday, June 5th? World Environment Day 2022 is the biggest international day for the environment. Led by the United Nations Environment Program (UNEP), and held annually since 1974, it has grown to be the largest global platform for environmental outreach. It is celebrated by millions of people across the world. In celebration, take the challenge to complete an action that will help achieve one of the following!
- Restoring ecosystems on land and/or sea (examples, plant a pollinator garden or hold a beach cleanup).
- Improving waste management (have you tried composting to reduce your food waste?)
- Reducing single use plastic (do you use reusable shopping bags?)
- Using renewable mobility (how often do you ride your bike? Take the bus?)
- Increasing energy efficiency (do you turn your lights off when you leave a room? What kind of lightbulbs do you use?)
- Boosting conservation (Did you know just buy visiting the Zoo you contribute money to conservation?)
- Cutting emissions (are there places you can walk instead of drive?)
- Reducing pollution
- Including regional, seasonal, and plant-rich foods to meals (try something new!)
For 5000 points in June, let us know what action you took, and how it helped the planet. You can write a journal entry, draw a picture, take a photo-however you want to share your action. Either bring your work into Nature Swap or email it to natureswap@rwpzoo.org to receive your points.
For 1000 bonus points, share your action to the World Environment Day community! Go to https://action.worldenvironmentday.global/#take-action and follow the prompts to receive and submit your action number (choose “nature” when asked what type of action you are taking.) Send us a screenshot to earn your additional 1000 points!
